WiMAX Telecom expands wireless broadband network to Croatia

Zurich, 28 November 2005

WiMAX Telecom Group, the world's only multinational WiMax service provider, is to be awarded two sought-after licences for Croatia. The licences allow WiMAX Telecom to continue pursuing its strategy of setting up a cross-border WiMax network for central and eastern Europe. Work on the independent wireless network in Croatia is due to begin in mid-2006. The first services will go live just shortly afterwards.

With the licences for Split and Rijeka, WiMAX Telecom Group will hold two out of the three regions in Croatia. These attractive locations fit seamlessly into the WiMAX Telecom strategy and form a new bridgehead for the steady eastward expansion of Europe's first independent and international WiMax network.

"Ours was the winning submission in the majority of regions – and we see that as a vote of confidence from the telecommunications authorities, given our expertise in the countries where we operate already," remarked Dov Bar-Gera, Chairman of the Board of WiMAX Telecom AG. He continued: "The licences were granted following on the basis of a tough selection procedure. That shows that Croatia, too, is looking for the most competitive provider".

Start-up in Croatia
Zagreb-based WiMAX Telecom d.o.o. will begin to set up the national organisation as soon as the next few days. It plans to establish WiMax networks that will cover the entire urban areas of Split and Rijeka, as well as the majority of the regions' rural areas. The network will go live in the second quarter of 2006, with services to customers starting in parallel.

The company is planning investment of approximately EUR 10 million in the first phase alone. To ensure even network coverage, WiMAX Telecom will also be bidding for the Croatian licences that have not yet been awarded.

Europe-wide perspective
With branches in Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and Croatia, WiMAX Telecom is the world's only independent, multinational provider of WiMax services. It holds national licences in both Austria and Slovakia, where its active networks already serve hundreds of customers. The company has a Europe-wide perspective, however, and even now is working on obtaining licences in Germany and Switzerland.

WiMAX Telecom AG
WiMAX Telecom AG is the holding company for the Austrian WiMAX Telecom GmbH, the Slovakian WiMAX Telecom s.r.o. and the Croatian WiMAX Telecom d.o.o. WiMAX services include rapid Internet, VoIP telephony and "last mile" alternatives for private and corporate customers.
