WiMAX Telecom consolidates leadership in wireless broadband access in Croatia
Zurich, 19 April 2006 – WiMAX Telecom Group, the world's only multinational provider of WiMax* services, is expanding its position in Croatia. With the award of licences for the Zagreb rural region, it now holds four of only five licences for wireless broadband access and is at the same time consolidating its leading position.
With the award of the 3.5 GHz WiMax radio licence for the Zagreb rural region, WiMAX Telecom Group has taken another important step forward and is expanding its leading position in Croatia as well as the rest of Europe. Given its population density and topography, the region is considered a first-rate transmission area. It has considerable market potential and is a perfect fit for the company's tried and proven strategy of building up the first independent, cross-border WiMax network in Europe.
"The Croatian market is so important for us because it is a bridgehead to further expansion in the East," says Dov Bar-Gera, Chairman of the Board of WiMAX Telecom AG. "Right from the start, we'll invest in this lucrative market with the latest WiMax 802.16e technology," he continued.
Expansion in Croatia The local company, WiMAX Telecom d.o.o., Zagreb, has been working since the end of 2005 to set up a nationwide WiMax network (802.16e) in Croatia. Over and above the four existing licences, WiMAX Telecom d.o.o. has therefore applied for additional licences. The network, which offers wireless broadband Internet access and voice telephony, is to go live in the main transmission areas this year.
All of Europe in its sights With branches in Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and Croatia, WiMAX Telecom is the world's only independent, multinational provider of WiMax services. It holds national licences in both Austria and Slovakia, where its active networks already serve several thousand customers, and is working on obtaining licences in Germany and other countries.
*Offering a range of up to 15 kilometres and transmission rates of up to 70 Mbps, the new WiMAX radio technology is considered to be the future standard for wireless and broadband Internet access and voice telephony.
WiMAX Telecom AG WiMAX Telecom AG is the holding company for the Austrian WiMAX Telecom GmbH, the Slovakian WiMAX Telecom s.r.o. and the Croatian WiMAX Telecom d.o.o. The WiMAX services include wireless Internet access, VoIP telephony and "last mile alternatives" for private and business customers.
